I am as much a writer as I am a callmaker, and you'll notice that as you cruise through this site.

 

For more years than either of that, though, I've been an outdoors sportsman, hunting and fishing the Pacific Northwest.  I was born and reared on a ranch in the high country in the northeast corner of Oregon.  With my father and younger brothers I hunted for mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, upland game birds and ducks.  We fished for trout, steelhead and Chinook salmon.

 

Without wild game, our table would have been bare many days.  My father's rule was "Take all you want, but eat all you take."  To that wisdom, I've added a few corollaries of my own:

• Abide by the law in where and how you harvest game,

• Keep some sense of fair chase,

• Pass up a non-fatal shot
